About
Karasu Films is a team of filmmakers with decades of experience in the world of Film & TV production. While there is the occasional indie darling that breaks from Hollywood’s formula, for the most part, Western media sticks to the traditional conflict-driven, three-act-structure. But audiences are looking for a change.
With the recent international explosion of anime and Japanese cinema, something about Japanese storytelling has clearly resonated with Western audiences. Our mission is to find out what that “something” is. We want to understand Japanese storytelling traditions — like Kishōtenketsu, mono no aware, and wabi-sabi — examine how they manifest in modern Japanese works, and uncover why they impact us so deeply.
